Two bedrooms upstairs, sleeper-sofa & Futon downstairs
(Sleeps 8, but that would be close quarters)
The MBR has a queen size bed, a GREAT view of the tidal pond (check the photo album), TV, CD player/radio (with romantic, soft music CDs) & ceiling fan. The Guest Room has 2 twin beds, TV & ceiling fan. The living room has a queen-size sleeper sofa & full-size Futon. There are ceiling fans in the living room, dining room, kitchen & back porch. Except for the baths, ALL rooms have ceiling fans.
One and a half baths, plus an outdoor shower
There is a full bath upstairs, with knotty pine paneling. This bath has a large skylight, an over sized soaker tub with shower and a double-sink vanity.
There's a powder room off the kitchen on the first floor. In addition, there’s an enclosed private outdoor shower (yes, WITH hot water) at the front of the unit. Kids, in particular seem to enjoy that shower.
There is an enclosed porch at the back of the unit, with a spectacular view of the tidal pond. The windows slide to convert the enclosure into a screened porch. Check the photos - the porch is one of the nicest features of this town home. There's a table with 4 chairs, a glider, a love seat with a coffee table and ceiling fan. Enjoy your morning coffee with the ducks on the lake.
The kitchen has everything you’d expect and then some:
Breakfast bar with three stools
Refrigerator with ice-maker
Pots, pans, baking dishes, glasses, flatware, plates, cups, glasses, utensils, can opener, cork screw, mixing bowls
Keurig (k-cup) machine, plus drip coffee maker and filters.
Paper towels, bath tissue, & paper plates (there are stoneware plates, too.)
Blender with tap
Spices, condiments & cooking oil
The Living Room has a sleeper-sofa, Futon and coffee table. There’s also cable TV, DVD player, and Bose stereo with CD & radio. There are some DVDs for both the kids and the grown-ups. There are some best-seller books if you need a "beach read," or some board games and jig saw puzzles.
In the Dining area, the oak table seats 6.
There's an assigned parking space right in front of the unit and additional unassigned spaces available nearby.
The unit has central air and six ceiling fans. Of course, there's also heat for the off-season. There is an electric (George Foreman) grill, sand and beach chairs and boogie boards in the storage shed at the front of the unit for your use.
There's a stack washer and dryer (and detergent). The washer is “apartment size.” Doing large amounts of laundry would be time consuming.
Two outdoor swimming pools, (this unit is BETWEEN the two pools, they’re BOTH very close), a hot tub/Jacuzzi and kid’s wading area (at the front pool), three tennis courts, playgrounds and tot-lot, basketball, volleyball and shuffleboard courts, exercise trails. Pool hours are posted in the unit, basically they're open from Memorial Day weekend to mid-September.
There 5 five lakes/ponds at Mallard Lakes. Casa de Paz is on the largest lake - a tidal, salt water pond with 3 wildlife sanctuary islands. The lakes are stocked for fishing and crabbing. ALL lakes access is a 'common area' for the condominium complex, so walk around the lakes and explore. There's no swimming in the lakes, so use the pools... or the ocean. There are picnic tables and charcoal grills available in a nearby common area. At the unit, there's a large electric, kettle style George Foreman grill. (Except for the permanently mounted charcoal grills in the public picnic areas, any other charcoal and gas grills are NOT allowed at Mallard Lakes.
Mallard Lakes is located two miles west of Coastal Highway on Delaware Route 54, also called Lighthouse Road. This is just north of the Delaware - Maryland line. It's about a half hour to tax-free shopping at the Delaware Outlets in Rehoboth Beach. The popular restaurant, Smitty McGee's is located directly across from the entrance to Mallard Lakes - an easy walk.
WI-FI - Of course there's internet access at the unit. Log-on information in the unit. Public WI-FI is also available at both pools.
Ocean Access – The Atlantic Ocean is about two miles from Mallard Lakes. When you drive in Lighthouse Road, you reach Coastal Highway about at the Delaware/Maryland line. Turn right and you'll be in Maryland. On the MARYLAND SIDE of the state line, there is FREE parking in the “beach block” (the last block before the ocean). You will “almost always” find a spot between 142nd Street and 145th Street (4 blocks from Lighthouse Road). On the weekend, just plan to go a little earlier. Parking is restricted on the Delaware side. If you prefer the boardwalk along with the beach, the OC boardwalk extends from the inlet up to 28th Street.
